Who are the undergraduate patient advocate?

Undergraduate patient advocates are critical in ensuring that our patients are given adequate healthcare. Patient advocates are responsible for accompanying patients in the duration of their visit. Undergraduate volunteers take patients' vitals (height, weight, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure), assist medical professionals with lab work--which includes centrifuging blood samples to be sent to UCDMC, and witness real medical provider-patient interactions.

What are the commitments for patient advocates?

Translating patient advocates are required to: 

  • Work in clinic for two consecutive quarters 

  • Commit to five Saturday clinic shifts and one Sunday clinic shift per quarter

  • ​Attend all general meetings and clinic socials

  • Complete assigned committee work 

English patient advocates are required to: 

  • Work in clinic for two consecutive quarters 

  • Commit to four Saturday clinic shifts and one 

  • ​Attend general meetings and clinic socials

  • Complete assigned Public Relations committee work
